FAQs
What is GLEAN?
GLEAN is a community-based platform that connects people who have extra food with those who can use it—helping reduce waste while supporting local families.
How do I share food?
Simply create a post (a “Glean”) with the food item you’d like to share. Add a short description and the specific location where you’d like the item to be picked up so others nearby can find it.
How do I request food?
Browse available posts in your area and request the item you need. Once accepted, you’ll coordinate pickup directly with the person sharing it.
How does pickup work?
After a request is accepted, both users connect via email to arrange a convenient pickup time and location.
What kind of food can be shared?
Fresh produce, pantry items, unopened packaged goods, or extra food from home, farms, restaurants, or markets—anything safe and suitable for others to enjoy.
Can businesses or farmers use GLEAN?
Yes. Local farmers, restaurants, and markets can share or offer excess food—either as donations or at discounted prices.
Is the food free?
Most shared items are free, but some may be offered at a discounted price depending on the provider.
Is GLEAN responsible for the food?
GLEAN is a platform that connects people. Users are responsible for ensuring the food they share is safe, properly stored, and accurately described.
Where is GLEAN available?
